BREAKING: Two Suspects Detained in Phnom Penh Over Massive 562-Kilogram Drug Trafficking Case
Phnom Penh – August 2, 2025: The Phnom Penh Municipal Court has ordered the temporary detention of two Vietnamese nationals in connection with one of the largest drug trafficking cases uncovered in Cambodia in recent years, involving more than 562 kilograms of illegal narcotics.
According to a press release issued by the court spokesperson, the case—filed as Criminal Case No. 4416 on July 30, 2025—includes the seizure of multiple types of drugs: 291,391 grams of methamphetamine, 199,800 grams of MDMA, 70,120 grams of heroin, and 943 grams of ketamine.
The two suspects currently in custody have been identified as Phan Anhle, 36, and Nguyen Thanh Tan, 34. Authorities say they are part of a wider trafficking ring, with six other suspects still on the run. The criminal activities reportedly occurred between 2023 and July 24, 2025, across Phnom Penh and Kandal Province.
The suspects face multiple charges including illegal transportation, trafficking, and storage of narcotics, as well as money laundering. These offenses fall under Articles 40 and 48 of the Law on Drug Control and Article 38 of the Law on Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism.
After questioning the suspects and reviewing evidence, the investigating judge ruled to place the two men in pre-trial detention while further investigations continue in accordance with legal procedures.
Authorities are continuing efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining six suspects still at large.
